Position Overview
The successful candidate will serve as a lead litigation paralegal on family law matters, including divorce, complex property division, child custody, enforcement, modification, and related litigation matters. The role requires strong docket control management skills, drafting ability, client communication skills, and familiarity with Texas litigation practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as lead paralegal for assigned family law litigation matters.
- Manage case deadlines, docket control, calendars, hearings, mediations, discovery deadlines, and trial settings.
- Draft, revise, proofread, and organize pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, inventories and appraisements, proposed orders, correspondence, spreadsheets, and other litigation documents.
- Assist attorneys with preparation for temporary orders, hearings, mediations, depositions, pretrial conferences, final trials, and post-judgment proceedings.
- Prepare and organize exhibits, witness materials, trial notebooks, mediation notebooks, financial records, discovery productions, and case chronologies.
- Coordinate and communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, vendors, process servers, and other legal professionals.
- Electronically file and serve documents through Texas e-filing systems.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and organized electronic and physical client files.
- Assist with discovery management, document review, production organization, subpoenas, records requests, and follow-up with third parties.
- Screen potential new clients, assist with intake workflow, and help identify conflicts.
- Monitor and update case-management software, task lists, and internal workflows.
- Support and help coordinate the work of litigation assistants and other team members.
- Attend in-person hearings, mediations, and other litigation events as needed.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a litigation paralegal required.
- Family law litigation experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Texas family law procedure, Texas court filing requirements, and litigation deadlines preferred.
- Excellent writing, proofreading, grammar, and document-formatting skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases, competing priorities, and urgent deadlines.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion with confidential and sensitive client information.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work in-office in Austin, Texas.
- Typing speed of 60+ words per minute with a high degree of accuracy preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Adobe, Zoom, and Texas e-filing platforms.
- Experience with Centerbase highly preferred.
- Experience with discovery platforms, document management systems, or trial-preparation tools preferred.
- Paralegal certificate, college degree, or equivalent law-firm experience preferred.
- Board Certification in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization preferred but not required.
- Spanish-language ability is a plus but not required.
